Exploring the Outdoors, Life-Wide Learning in Action
At St Peters Springfield, we believe education extends far beyond the walls of the classroom. Through our commitment to Life-Wide Learning, we create opportunities for students to grow in knowledge and character in a variety of real-world contexts. Our Outdoor Education program is a shining example of this intentional, whole-child development and, in 2025, it has expanded to include every year level from Prep to Year 12.
This year we were delighted to introduce our first on-campus Day Camps for Prep and Year 1 that will occur later this term, offering our youngest learners a safe but exciting first taste of outside exploration and environmental connection. For the first time too, Year 2 students will take part in an off-campus Day Camp at Emu Gully this Friday 10 October, where they will engage with hands-on challenges that promote resilience and cooperation in the natural world.
The momentum continues through the Primary Years. Earlier in Term 3, our Year 3 students embarked on their first-ever Overnight Camp, taking a significant step toward independence and self-discovery. This combines with our Years 4 and 5 Camps to have commonality with earlier years, while the Year 6 Canberra Tour is an absolute highlight of the Primary Leadership Journey.
This sequential, age-appropriate progression continues into Junior High and Senior School, especially with our iconic Ironbark Outdoor Education Experience in Year 9. This five-week program stands as a defining moment in the St Peters journey and an opportunity for students to disconnect from technology, face challenges with courage and develop a lasting appreciation for nature and community. In Year 10, students participate in the IGNITE program, followed by leadership development camps and service-based activities in Years 11 and 12.
Through each of these carefully designed experiences, students learn about their own identity, discover the world beyond themselves and encounter the wonder of God’s expansive creation. These experiences foster deep gratitude, humility, and the kind of purposeful growth that shapes our young people for the future.
Rooted in our St Peters heritage, Outdoor Education at Springfield is preparation for a life of purpose, grounded in faith, and guided by values. It holistically develops young men and women who are ready to serve, lead, and experience life in its abundance.

World Mental Health Day — Friday 10 October
World Mental Health Day raises awareness and mobilises support so that quality mental health care becomes a reality for everyone. It’s also a reminder that wellbeing isn’t a one-day event—it’s something we practise together, every day.
At St Peters Springfield, we live this daily through our values of Care, Dignity and Respect. These guide how we learn, lead and look after one another—from the way we greet students at the gate to the conversations we have in and outside our classrooms.
What this looks like at our College
Care: Daily Pastoral Care and weekly CDR lessons build skills in help-seeking, empathy, resilience and positive relationships.
Dignity: Every young person is known by name and strengths. We create safe spaces to speak up, ask for help and be heard without judgement.
Respect: Staff model respectful dialogue and restorative practices, ensuring problems are addressed early and kindly.
How families can join us
Check in with your young person—ask “How’s your head and heart today?”
Keep routines steady: sleep, movement, nutrition and time away from screens matter.
Reach out early—to your child’s Pastoral Care teacher, Year Level Coordinator, or our Wellbeing and Student Support team.
