We are excited to announce that refurbishment works will commence on our blue playing courts on the oval from 18 September 2026. This project is an important investment in our school’s sporting facilities and will provide our students with improved, safer and more functional spaces for sport, physical activity and recreation.

We recognise that the works will have an impact on our day-to-day operations while the project is underway. Half of the oval will be closed, and the playing courts will be out of bounds for the duration of the works. There will also be some changes to school access during student drop-off. When the staff car park is closed, parents and carers will not be able to walk through this area and will instead need to use the pedestrian gate on Wellness Way or access the school via Nightingale Avenue.

The upgraded facilities will support our physical education program, encourage active play and provide students with better opportunities to develop their skills, teamwork and enjoyment of sport. Once completed, the refurbished courts will provide a significantly improved environment for students to participate in a wider range of sporting activities.

We understand that these changes may cause some inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience, flexibility and cooperation during this period. We will work to minimise disruption wherever possible and maintain safe access around the school.

We look forward to seeing the completed courts and the many benefits they will bring to our students and wider school community. Thank you for your understanding and support as we undertake this exciting improvement to our school facilities.

There is something lovely about arriving somewhere and finding that someone has made room for you. A chair is pulled out. Someone remembers your name. You don’t have to hover at the edge, wondering whether you’re welcome. You can settle in and breathe.

We all need that. Children and adults alike carry questions about belonging, even when we don’t say them aloud. Is there room for me? Can I be myself here? Will I still be loved when things aren’t going well?

When we read the stories of Jesus, we find him making room for people. He welcomes children when the disciples think he has more important things to do. He shares meals with people others avoid. He stops for those who call out from the roadside, and notices those who would rather stay hidden in the crowd.

Each encounter helps us see something of God’s heart. Here is a love that moves towards people, knows their stories and meets them with compassion.

That is what we mean by grace. God comes to us with love before we have managed to get everything sorted. We bring our questions, our mistakes, our complicated lives and our unfinished selves. In Jesus, we discover that we are already known and deeply loved. His life, death and resurrection reveal how far God goes to bring us close, offering forgiveness and the promise of new life.

There is such relief in that. We can stop trying to make ourselves worthy of love and begin to live from the love we have received.

And that love has somewhere to go.

In Romans 15:7, Paul encourages us to welcome one another as Christ has welcomed us. Christ’s welcome becomes the starting point for our own.

In a school community, that can look wonderfully ordinary: making space at a lunch table, learning to pronounce someone’s name, listening to a different experience, noticing who has been left out. It means remembering that every student, parent and staff member is a person of God-given worth, with a story we may only partly know.

We will sometimes get this wrong. Grace gives us room to acknowledge that, seek forgiveness and begin again together.

My prayer for our community is that, through these small, everyday encounters, people might glimpse the generous love of Jesus. That they might find room to breathe, courage to ask questions, and the quiet assurance that they are valued.

There is room at the table. Let’s keep making that welcome visible.

Our Lost Property collection is growing, with a number of unnamed water bottles, lunch boxes and items of school uniform currently waiting to be reunited with their owners.

Lost Property is located in the waiting area of Student Services in Curnow House, along the Concourse just before the HUB. If your child has misplaced an item, please encourage them to check the Lost Property area as soon as possible.

Families are also reminded to clearly label all uniform items and personal belongings with their child’s name, making it much easier for found items to be returned directly to students.

As storage space is limited, any items remaining unclaimed at the end of this term will be disposed of or donated to charity.

Student Services

St Peters Springfield families who regularly travel to and from Indooroopilly are encouraged to plan ahead, with a series of overnight closures scheduled for the Walter Taylor Bridge during September and October.

Brisbane City Council is continuing essential renewal works on the bridge, with full closures required while crews undertake work on key structural connection points.

The Walter Taylor Bridge will be closed to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists from 9:00pm Saturday to 5:00am Sunday on the following dates:

• Saturday 12 September
• Saturday 19 September
• Saturday 26 September
• Saturday 3 October
• Saturday 10 October
• Saturday 17 October

While the scheduled works take place outside normal school hours, the closures may be relevant to Springfield families travelling to or from the St Peters Indooroopilly campus for weekend sport, activities, events or other commitments.

During each closure, motorists will need to use an alternative route across the Brisbane River. Sections of Wharf Street and Radnor Street will also be closed, and some surrounding roads may experience additional traffic.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the Jack Pesch Bridge while the Walter Taylor Bridge footpath is closed. Public transport services are not expected to be affected.

Families should also be aware that, if additional time is required to complete the works, the bridge may remain closed until 5:00am Monday, which could potentially affect Monday morning travel.

Closure dates may change due to weather or site conditions. Families travelling between Springfield and Indooroopilly during these periods are encouraged to allow additional travel time and check QLDTraffic before departing.

A reminder to families that, in accordance with the College’s enrolment policy, one full term’s written notice is required when withdrawing a student from St Peters Lutheran College.

Families intending for their child to leave St Peters Springfield at the end of Term 4, 2026 must provide written notice to the College by Thursday 17 September 2026.

If your child will be continuing at St Peters Springfield in 2027, no action is required.

Families are asked to carefully read the Vacation Care program and booking information and complete all required documentation. Bookings cannot be confirmed until all required forms have been received.

Not all activities require a permission form, so families are encouraged to check the program and booking information carefully. Hard copies of the program and booking information are also available from the reception desk at MB01.

What to Bring Each Day

Children should bring:

• a lunchbox with enough food for the entire day. Please remember that OSHC is an Allergy Aware Service
• a named water bottle
• sun-safe clothing, with shirts that completely cover the shoulders
• enclosed shoes. Thongs and sandals are not permitted
• a set of spare clothes for messy play or toileting accidents
• a College sport or broad-brimmed hat. Caps are not permitted
• named SPF 50+ sunscreen if your child will not be using the sunscreen provided by the service.

White Ridge Farm Excursion

Families booking the White Ridge Farm excursion are reminded that:

• the bus will depart at 8:30am
• children must wear their full school sports uniform

Today, our College community came together to recognise R U OK? Day and reflect on the importance of staying connected, noticing when someone may be struggling and taking the time to ask, “Are you OK?”

Across the College, students and staff wore a splash of yellow as a visible reminder of the day’s message, while Chapel and wellbeing activities encouraged students to think more deeply about what it means to care for one another.

In Pastoral Care classrooms, students explored the example Jesus gives us of noticing and responding to those around Him. Through the story of Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene in John 20, students reflected on the simple but powerful act of recognising when someone is distressed, asking what is wrong and being present with them.

Students also explored the four steps of an R U OK? conversation, learning that supporting someone does not mean having all the answers. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is notice, ask, listen and encourage further support when it is needed.

During first break, our Secondary Wellbeing Portfolio hosted a special R U OK? Day Wellbeing Club, giving students another opportunity to connect through games and activities and helping bring the message of wellbeing and community to life.

While today gives us an important opportunity to start these conversations, the message is one we carry beyond a single day.

Every day is a day to ask, “R U OK?”

On Tuesday 8 September, our Year 5 students had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Commissariat Store Museum in Brisbane as part of our Where We Are in Place and Time Unit of Inquiry. Students stepped back in time to explore Brisbane’s early colonial history and develop a deeper understanding of life in the colony, and how people’s beliefs and experiences shaped society. Through engaging activities and stories as well as the museum’s fascinating collection of artefacts, students were able to connect their classroom learning with real historical places and objects. It was a fantastic day of learning, exploration, and discovery.

Springfield’s Night of Theatre 

Theatre is alive and thriving at St Peters Springfield. After just six weeks of preparation, members of our Primary Drama Troupe and Secondary Drama students took to the stage last Friday evening for Springfield’s Night of Theatre.

Primary students performed Radio Ridiculous, while Secondary Drama presented The Toy Shop and The Gods Might Be Crazy. The audience was treated to three entertaining short plays, including two works by Australian playwright Eylece Blaikie.

There was also plenty of audience involvement, with staff and dads joining in the fun for an Olympics-inspired sack race!

Thank you to Mrs Wilson and Mrs Tong for their work with our Drama Troupes, Ms Powell for props, sound and lighting, Barossa O for assistance with props and Navjeet K for designing the event logo. Congratulations to all students involved for bringing such energy and enthusiasm to the stage.

Australian Girls Choir

On Monday, representatives from the Australian Girls Choir visited St Peters Springfield to lead a workshop with students from Prep to Year 6 and introduce them to the Australia-wide vocal program.

Participation in the Australian Girls Choir provides students with opportunities to develop their vocal and performance skills, while also performing at a range of sporting, cultural and corporate events throughout the year, as well as the Choir’s own performances.

We wish all students who were invited to continue with the program every success as they consider this exciting opportunity.

GBC Mixed Gala Day

Western District Netball Association Grand Final

Congratulations and the very best of luck to our U11 St Peters Springfield Netball Team as they compete in the WDNA Division 3 Grand Final this Saturday at Graceville, with the match commencing at 10:50am.

We are incredibly proud of our girls and the dedication, commitment, and teamwork they have displayed throughout the season. Their hard work has earned them this wonderful opportunity, and we know they will represent St Peters Springfield with pride.

Student Success | Rowing

Congratulations to St Peters Springfield students Ayla, Kalista, Julia, Emma and Laila, who competed at the BSRA Head of the River on 29 August. Our girls represented the College community with pride, delivering some outstanding performances on one of the biggest stages of the rowing season.

A special congratulations to Laila, who coxed the St Peters Senior Four Crew to victory in a record-breaking time of 5:39.41, eclipsing the previous BSRA Senior Four record. The crew capped off an exceptional undefeated season, winning every regatta before claiming the prestigious Head of the River title and setting a new benchmark in the process. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and commitment shown by the girls throughout the season.

Student Success | Open Water Swimming

Congratulations to Year 7 student Olive and Year 9 student Lucy, who competed at the 2026 Brisbane Open Water Championships on Saturday. Both students performed exceptionally well, with Olive earning a bronze medal in the U13 2.5km event, while Lucy achieved an impressive 12th place in the U15 2.5km event.

These results are a fantastic achievement and reflect the girls' dedication, determination, and hard work. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented St Peters Springfield with pride and distinction.

Primary and Secondary GBC 

Congratulations to all teams who participated in Term 3 GBC Primary and Secondary Sport. Once again, our program has continued to go from strength to strength, culminating in one of our most successful sporting terms to date. A special mention must go to our Senior Boys Football Team, who have earned their place in the GBC Grand Final this Saturday at TSAC Primary Campus, kicking off at 8:00am. This achievement is a testament to the team's hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the season. St Peters Springfield families are warmly invited to a free community event with award-winning journalist, parenting commentator and bestselling author Madonna King, hosted by the Greater Springfield Learning Coalition.

As one of the local schools represented within the Coalition, St Peters Springfield is pleased to support this opportunity for parents, carers, educators and community members to come together for an important conversation about children and technology.

Madonna King will share insights from her newly released book, Screen Wise, exploring how families can help children navigate technology safely and confidently while developing a healthy balance.

With social media and AI rapidly changing the way young people learn, socialise and consume information, many families are navigating questions around screen use, online safety and how best to support their children in an increasingly digital world. The evening will offer practical guidance that goes beyond screen-time limits and simple rules, helping parents consider how they can approach these challenges with greater confidence.

We encourage St Peters Springfield parents and carers to take advantage of this free opportunity to hear from Madonna and gain practical insights to support conversations about technology and wellbeing at home.
