Our 2027 student leadership selection process is now well underway, with an outstanding 52 Year 11 students putting themselves forward for leadership within our portfolio model.

At St Peters Springfield, our leadership model is built around portfolios, providing students with opportunities to lead in areas including Academic, Wellbeing, Sport, The Arts, Culture, Faith & Service and House. The model recognises that leadership is not simply about holding a badge or title. It is about how we show up each day, how we live out Care, Dignity and Respect, and our willingness to contribute to the life of our College.

Each applicant has submitted a written application, which is now displayed outside the HUB for students and staff to read. This week, both students and staff will have the opportunity to vote and provide an important perspective as part of the selection process.

Next week, applicants will have the opportunity to interview and speak further about what they hope to contribute and their vision for their nominated portfolio.

Our Portfolio and House Leaders will be selected by the end of this term, ready to begin the important work of leading, serving and shaping our College community from Term 4 this year.

This term, the Year 7 Christian Studies students have examined the life of Joseph from Genesis, chapters 37–50. This is generally dated around 1900–1800 BC. The message from this story is still relevant to us today.

After being betrayed and sold into slavery by his brothers, Joseph, who is now second in charge of Egypt, says the following to his brothers.

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today” (Genesis 50:20).

In his exalted office, Joseph could have become an overbearing tyrant, getting his own back in full measure. This is what his brothers expected him to do, and presumably what they themselves would have done in the same circumstances. Joseph’s ‘fear not’ was intended to reassure them that nothing of the sort was in his mind. He freely forgave them, therefore setting an example of forgiveness unsurpassed in the Old Testament.

The following are some short responses from some of our Year 7 students.

"This term in Christian Studies, we learned about grace and what it means to be forgiven. In the story of Joseph (second-in-command of Egypt), grace was shown when he forgave his brothers for their sins and invited them to live in Egypt with him. This was a bit surprising because many people would’ve acted differently, taking revenge against people like the jealous brothers, instead of restoring them. Grace means receiving/giving what you don’t deserve: someone giving undeserved kindness." Alisa

"Grace means undeserved kindness or receiving something that you don’t deserve. We have examined this through many different stories, like the story of Joseph, and watching The Chronicles of Narnia. In the story of Joseph, grace was shown when he forgave his brothers after the series of horrible things they had done to him. In The Chronicles of Narnia, little Lucy forgives her siblings after they don’t believe her. This demonstrates how grace is shown in everyday life, even when people don’t know. A way that I can display grace to a person is by forgiving them for a mistake they made." George

"This term in Christian Studies, I learned about grace and how it relates to the story of Joseph. In the story of Joseph, grace was shown when he forgave his brothers and helped them by giving them food. This surprised me because Joseph’s brothers threw him into a well and then sold him as a slave, faking his death to their dad. This caused Joseph to go to jail for around 17 years. Grace means giving what someone doesn’t deserve. One way I can show grace to someone else is by forgiving someone when they do something wrong or hurtful." Abbey

Arise Live is a gathering for youth, young adults and those who are simply young at heart, held in the Junior High Precinct at St Peters Springfield on Sunday 30 August. Featuring live music, a message from God's Word, great food and meaningful connection, Arise Live provides an opportunity to come together in faith and community.

Our guest speaker for the evening is St Peters Springfield teacher Mr Nick Brayne, who will share what it means to have a servant heart and how our lives can reflect God's grace.

On Wednesday 26 August from 4:45pm - 6:00pm, St Peters Springfield will be hosting a Twilight Tour for prospective families across Primary and Secondary Years.

Guests will enjoy a guided tour of the campus, connect with staff and students, and gain insight into the St Peters Springfield experience and our approach to learning. This is a wonderful opportunity for prospective families to experience our vibrant and welcoming community firsthand.

This tour is suitable for families considering enrolment across all year levels. We encourage our current families to share this opportunity with friends and extended family who may be exploring schooling options and interested in joining the St Peters Springfield community.

Registrations open from 4:45pm, with tours commencing at 5:00pm.

As part of our Book Week 2026 celebrations, The Hub will host a range of activities for Primary and Secondary students next week, encouraging students to engage with books, reading and creativity beyond the classroom.

This year's Book Week theme is Symphony of Stories, with activities planned throughout the week for students of different ages and interests.

Primary students will be able to participate in daily book-themed art, craft and STEM activities, as well as crosswords, word finds and colouring. Students can also borrow a Mystery Book, enter the Guess the Book in the Jar competition or take part in the Symphony of Stories Colouring Competition, with Book Fair vouchers awarded to the competition winners.

The Book Fair will also open on Wednesday 26 August, providing students with an opportunity to browse and purchase books.

Secondary students will have their own Book Week activities available during break times, including Mystery Book borrowing, the Guess the Book in the Jar competition and creative activities such as making macramé bookmarks and mini book keychains or earrings.

Book Week is one of the ways we encourage a positive culture of reading at St Peters Springfield. By providing activities across both Primary and Secondary, students have opportunities to participate in ways that suit their age and interests while sharing in a whole-school celebration of books and stories.

Book Week Parade

The week will culminate in our much-loved Book Week Parade on Thursday morning, with students from Kindergarten to Year 6 invited to dress as their favourite book character.

Families are welcome to join us on the Concourse from 8:45am–9:30am as our students showcase their costumes and celebrate the stories and characters that have captured their imaginations.

We look forward to a wonderful week celebrating reading across St Peters Springfield.

As part of our Book Week and National Science Week celebrations, our Years 5 and 6 students welcomed author, scientist and conservationist Dr Sarah Pye to The Hub this week for a special author talk and presentation.

Joined by her puppet sidekick Pongo, Dr Pye introduced students to the world behind her Wildlife Wong series, which combines storytelling with real-world wildlife conservation and science.

Students heard about Dr Pye’s work with sun bears and explored how her experiences in conservation have inspired her writing, bringing together two of the week’s key themes: a love of reading and a curiosity about the natural world.

The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for students to hear directly from an author, ask questions and discover how science, conservation and storytelling can work together to inspire greater understanding and care for our world.

Our Year 3 students enjoyed an action-packed and memorable camp experience at QCCC!

Across two days, students embraced a range of exciting activities led by the wonderful Vertec Adventure team, including bush skills, circus skills, archery and a GPS Challenge. Each experience encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones, work together and build resilience and confidence, while developing respect for themselves, one another and the environment.

We were also delighted to have Mrs Jamieson, Head of St Peters Springfield, join us for some of the fun, impressing students with a bullseye in archery! Mrs Sabri also spent time with the group, enjoying the opportunity to see students enthusiastically taking part in the activities and joining them to share a meal together.

A huge thank you to QCCC for providing the venue and meals, and to the Vertec Adventure team for delivering such an active, engaging and adventurous experience.

Most importantly, we are incredibly proud of our Year 3 students. They supported and encouraged one another, took positive risks, embraced new challenges and made the most of every opportunity, creating some wonderful camp memories along the way.

We look forward to celebrating Book Week together and enjoying a fun afternoon of dancing, costumes and community.

There was plenty of House spirit, teamwork and friendly competition on display on Wednesday as our Years 7–12 students came together for the Mini House Olympics, the final Secondary House competition of the year.

Students swapped the classroom for a series of light-hearted challenges, including egg and spoon relays, tunnel ball, flip flop throwing, captain ball and bean bag relays. With plenty of encouragement from the sidelines, it was a fun way for students to work together, get involved and earn valuable points for their House.

The Mini House Olympics capped off a busy year for our Secondary House program. Alongside the major Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field Carnivals, students have competed in Trivia, Just Dance, Bingo, Family Feud and GeoGuessr, with successes shared across all three Houses throughout the year.

A particular crowd favourite is Just Dance, which sees each House select a song, dress to the theme and perform together. This year, Leichhardt took on Backstreet Boys' Everybody, Cunningham performed Gangnam Style and Mitchell brought plenty of energy with the YMCA. 

The variety of activities is an important part of the House program at St Peters Springfield, giving students with different interests and strengths opportunities to participate and contribute. Led by House Patrons Ms Ali Gadsby (Mitchell), Mr Ben Silvester (Leichhardt) and Mr Rhys Kirkham (Cunningham), the program also brings students together across Years 7–12, helping build connections beyond classrooms and friendship groups and strengthening a sense of belonging within our Secondary community.

While the Mini House Olympics marked the final House competition for 2026, there is still one much-loved tradition to come. House Choir will bring students together on the final day of the school year for one last celebration of House spirit.

Studio Recitals 

Congratulations to all the students who performed so confidently at the Studio Recitals held on Tuesday and Thursday this week in the Learning Commons. These recitals offer an opportunity to work towards a performance goal and to develop confidence introducing and performing to small audiences. Thanks to the Instrumental Tutors for their support of our young performers and preparing them for these events. 

Drama Night 

Friday 4 September will see students involved in both the Primary and Secondary Drama Troupes present a Night at the Theatre 2026 in the JHP Foyer from 5:00pm-6:30pm. Thanks to Mrs Wilson and Mrs Tong for their work with the troupes. A reminder that Secondary Drama Troupe rehearsals have been extended until 4:15pm. 

Lunchtime Concerts 

There has been a slight change to earlier arrangements. Next Wednesday 26 August, Grainger Concert Band will perform for the Primary students from 10:20am-10:30am (please leave class at 10:00am) and on Friday 28 August the Rock Bands will perform for the Secondary Students from 10:50am-11:10am (please leave class at 10:15am). All performers are to be in their formal winter uniform for these performances.

With the resignation of Ms Ashlee Smallfield, Secondary Dance Troupe has been suspended as the recruitment process occurs. Students and parents, guardians, caregivers will be notified once an appointment and start date has been confirmed

GBC Track & Field Championships

As the GBC Track and Field Championships approach, we are encouraging all team members to attend our final training session on Wednesday 26 August, from 6:15am to 8:00am. If students are unable to make the 6:15am start, we encourage them to arrive as soon as possible.

Our coaches will work with our year 3-12 students. Across the morning, assisting them with any last-minute technique/skills adjustments and then finish off with some fun relay events. Following the session, students will be provided with a light breakfast. This opportunity represents another important step in continuing to build the strong sporting culture at St Peters Springfield and fostering a sense of team unity ahead of the Championships. Final event allocations will be published on The Hub this Monday.

St Peters Springfield families are warmly invited to a free community event with award-winning journalist, parenting commentator and bestselling author Madonna King, hosted by the Greater Springfield Learning Coalition.

As one of the local schools represented within the Coalition, St Peters Springfield is pleased to support this opportunity for parents, carers, educators and community members to come together for an important conversation about children and technology.

Madonna King will share insights from her newly released book, Screen Wise, exploring how families can help children navigate technology safely and confidently while developing a healthy balance.

With social media and AI rapidly changing the way young people learn, socialise and consume information, many families are navigating questions around screen use, online safety and how best to support their children in an increasingly digital world. The evening will offer practical guidance that goes beyond screen-time limits and simple rules, helping parents consider how they can approach these challenges with greater confidence.

We encourage St Peters Springfield parents and carers to take advantage of this free opportunity to hear from Madonna and gain practical insights to support conversations about technology and wellbeing at home.
