With the new school year well underway, it’s time for some reflection on the incredible academic success of our 2019 graduating cohort. Impressively, 100% of all 2019 Year 12 students graduated with at least one qualification—either an Overall Position (OP), an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or a Certificate and/or VET qualification. A further 40.24% of students received an OP or OP equivalent of between 1 and 5 (our second-best result since 2008!).
QCAA OP Results
St Peters QCAA Year 12 students were awarded with strong academic results last year. Almost one in every two QCAA students achieved an OP 1-7, and the students performed strongly on the Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test. Our QCS results were well above the State average—almost 68% of OP eligible students were awarded an A or B, compared with 36% for the State.

Just under one in two IBDP students achieved an equivalent OP 1-5 in 2019.
START Program
In addition to their academic excellence within the College parameters, a number of the 2019 Year 12 cohort were also involved in the START Program at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The START Program saw students undertaking first year subjects in addition to their academic program. The subjects our students studied included:
Introduction to Justice & Society
Introduction to Film, TV & New Media Production
Introduction to Journalism, Media & Communication
Business Management
Introduction to Engineering Mathematics
Communication for Health Professionals
Vocational Education & Training (VET)
There are a range of VET subjects offered at St Peters (run through external providers). In 2019, 26 Year 12 students completed one or more of these at school. These courses included:
A small number of students also took the opportunity to study a School-Based Apprenticeship. These were in the areas of Hospitality and Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
Where to from here?
The 2019 Year 12 cohort were offered a lot of study options at St Peters. Outstanding results were achieved consistently throughout the year-level, regardless of the options they chose. This is both a comment on their own gifts and drive, and a testament to the commitment our teaching and support staff show towards our students. Information regarding the destination of the Class of 2019 will be available mid-year. For now, we’d like to congratulate the cohort on their efforts. We wish them the very best as they journey through 2020—their first year exploring the world outside of Secondary Education.
