Years 7-9

The transition from the Primary Years to high school is an exciting time in the life of a young person. Students, during this time, need to be cared for and supported; they need guidance that is tailored specifically for young adolescents and that is precisely what St Peters Indooroopilly Junior High is all about. Junior High caters for students in Years 7–9. The sub-school is built around the importance of developing academic, social, emotional and physical skills, with a philosophy and pedagogy that is appropriate for the students’ specific stage of life.

St Peters Junior High students are given ample opportunities to grow and develop their own unique skills and strengths. We encourage all students to challenge themselves and participate in life-changing experiences, including:

Junior High students can also get involved with a range of digital and emerging technologies, the Duke of Edinburgh program and the Exceptional Learners curriculum. They are given clear boundaries, support and every opportunity to develop self-confidence while setting goals for the future.

Junior High Outdoor Education

The value of outdoor education programs has long been recognised by Lutheran Education. During their time in Junior High, our students participate in three compulsory outdoor education programs:

  • Year 7 ‘Fun and Friendship’ camp (three days)
  • Year 8 ‘GREAT Lies Within’ camp (four days)
  • Year 9 ‘Ironbark’ (five weeks)

The Ironbark experience has shown itself to be a life-changing experience for many of our students.

Junior High Curriculum

The Junior High curriculum aims to develop organisational skills, increase independence, encourage responsibility, widen students’ view of the world and help them to make decisions that will positively shape their future. Junior High students follow a core curriculum that places an emphasis on Australian Curriculum Key Learning Areas (KLAs). It is diverse, flexible, well-resourced and engaging.
